Broke in the 5th game of the first set, the defending champion and 3rd favorite gave up his service a second time in the 7th game against Medvedev, the Russian didn’t ask that much.
After hitting the net regularly in the first set, Auger-Aliassime changed his strategy in the second set by staying further back in the field, but he was unable to force a final set.
After conceding serve in game 3 due to a double fault, Auger-Aliassime broke the Russian for the first time to recover at 2-2 and enjoyed his best hold of the game immediately afterwards but never managed to keep up the momentum despite the cheers from the crowd.
