Degrading initiations: Action 30 years overdue, says NHL veteran

The humiliating and brutal initiations into hockey outraged many people, particularly Robert Sirois. The former Philadelphia Flyers and Washington Capitals player just can’t believe it, and he put it well on Benoît Dutrizac’s mic over QUB radio.

“You will have five, six, seven players who have mental problems and will enjoy getting injured,” said Sirois.

QMJHL Commissioner Gilles Courteau assured that initiations as degrading as those discussed in Ontario do not occur in Quebec. Nevertheless, he claims to have taken special measures to prevent this. A contradiction, thinks Robert Sirois.

“I trust the young people who have spoken more,” said the former ice hockey player.

The former NHL player has seen initiations, particularly while playing for the Rosemont National, owned by none other than wrestler Johnny Rougeau.

“All the newcomers had their heads shaved,” he explained, adding that Mr. Rougeau didn’t like long hair. But that’s all.
