Delayed by strikes Emmy in 2024 awards projects for 2022

Delayed by strikes, Emmy in 2024 awards projects for 2022 and honors TV classics TV

The broadcast of the 2023 Emmys was originally scheduled for September 18 last year and finally took place on Monday evening (15). The fourmonth delay was due to the writers' and actors' strikes that paralyzed Hollywood. Such a delay ultimately led to unusual situations and took away some of the shine from the award.

For example, how can the wins of Dahmer: An American Cannibal (2022) and Black Bird (2022) be explained? The limited series were released by Netflix and Apple TV+ between July and September 2022 and have already become distant to the public.

O Urso, winner in almost all comedy categories, took part in the first season, which ended in mid2022 even the second year of the culinary series ended in June last year. The talk show award went to The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, although the comedian left the presentation in December 2022.

The intervals between the exhibition and the award ceremony are too long, which leaves the winners with a musty smell. The 2024 Golden Globes, which took place last Sunday (7), have already honored much newer productions that were not even eligible for the Emmy this year and are only competing for the next award, scheduled for September.

In the drama categories, the highlight was Succession (20182023), which received 27 nominations and won six awards, including best series. The Roy family drama also had an actor (Kieran Culkin), an actress (Sarah Snook) and a supporting actor (Matthew Macfadyen), as well as being written and directed.

Jennifer Coolidge represented “The White Lotus” with the supporting actress trophy she had already won in 2022 for the same role, but as supporting actress in a limited series, after she used a trick to bypass the regulations and compete in a category in which she shouldn't take part in. It doesn't have to be hers.

In comedy, The Bear performed well, surpassing Ted Lassos last year (20202023). The Apple TV+ attraction received 13 nominations and won 10 statuettes. Including best series, lead actor (Jeremy Allen White), supporting actress (Ayo Edebiri) and supporting actor (Ebon MossBacharach), as well as screenplay and direction. The only major award outside the curve went to Quinta Brunson, best actress for “Abbott Elementary.”

And Treta (2023) repeated its Golden Globe appearance and prevailed in the limited series categories there were 13 nominations and eight trophies. In addition to the main prize, Steven Yeun and Ali Wong were honored as lead actors. There was only room for competition between the supporting actors: Niecy NashBetts won for Dahmer and Paul Walter Hauser for Black Bird.

But as unbelievable as it may sound, the winners of the statuettes remained in the background during the party. To celebrate the 75th edition of the Emmys, cast members from some of North American television's most iconic series gathered on the awards show stage for a journey through time that became a tour of the who's who of world entertainment.

Names like Lorraine Bracco and Michael Imperioli (The Sopranos); Ellen Pompeo, Justin Chambers, James Pickens Jr., Chandra Wilson and Katherine Heigl (Grey's Anatomy); Martin Lawrence, Tichina Arnold, Tisha Campbell and Carl Anthony Payne 2nd (Martin); Ted Danson, Kelsey Grammer, Rhea Perlman, John Ratzenberger and George Wendt (Cheers); and Calista Flockhart, Gil Bellows, Greg Germann and Peter MacNicol (Ally McBeal).
