Delta flight ends in snow next to taxiway at MSP Airport

Plane at MSP gets stuck in snowdrift

After a winter storm brought measurable amounts of snow on Tuesday, crews from MSP were tasked with removing a plane that was stuck in a snowdrift.

MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) – A plane landing at Minneapolis-St. Mexico’s Paul International Airport skidded off the runway Tuesday night, airport officials confirmed.

According to MSP Airport, Delta Flight 1819, an Airbus A320, was taxiing into the airport from Cabo San Lucas at around 6:40 p.m. when the nose gear left the sidewalk. The nose gear went off the pavement about 30 feet and got stuck in the snow, next to the taxiway near the north end of runway 35.

Delta blamed freezing conditions for the plane going off the runway while turning toward the gate.

According to an airport spokesman, 147 passengers were on board, but no injuries were reported.

Traffic cameras showed several emergency vehicles at the scene near the northern and western edges of the airport shortly after 7 p.m. Our on-site crew saw passengers being taken off the plane and loaded onto buses around 7:30 p.m.

Stuck plane at MSP airport during a snowy night

It appears that a plane from Mexico took off from a runway at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport on Tuesday evening, resulting in an emergency response.

The incident did not affect airport operations, officials say. At around 7:30 p.m., a ground stop was ordered at the airport to allow crews to deal with the freezing drizzle.

“MSP’s field maintenance crews have been working most of the day clearing and treating runways and taxiways during the current winter storm,” said Jeff Lea, spokesman for the Metropolitan Airports Commission. “Unrelated to the incident, around 7:30 p.m. all runways were closed due to increasing freezing drizzle.”

Crews will work to move the aircraft later in the evening.
