Dem candidate was beaten and bloodied in a 5am attack in his own backyard

Democratic candidate hit 12 times in the head and knocked out in a ‘politically targeted’ attack in his own backyard: thugs threw bricks through the door and spray-painted ‘your race is dead’ on the garage

  • Richard Ringer, a Pennsylvania Democrat, was attacked in his yard Monday morning after catching a man trying to break into his garage
  • The latest attack is one of three suffered by Ringer in the past three weeks as his race for a seat in the House of Representatives in the Nov. 8 election nears
  • In one of the first attacks, Ringer found a brick thrown through a window of his home
  • He later found a note on his garage door with the words “Your race” and “Dead” clearly painted on it.

Police are on the hunt for a suspect who punched a Democratic candidate in his backyard after receiving multiple threats.

Richard Ringer, a Pennsylvania State House candidate who is seeking to unseat Republican Rep. Matt Dowling in the upcoming election, was attacked at 5 a.m. Monday as he approached a man trying to open his garage.

Ringer has received other threats in recent weeks, including a brick thrown through a window at his home and a message on his garage that read “your race” and “dead.”

The Democratic nominee said he left his home Monday to find a man with a flashlight.

“A guy had his back to me,” Ringer told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “He was taller than me and he was pinning me tight on my left side.

“I’m right-handed and he had my right arm pulled back and he hit me 10-12 times in the head, face and eye and he knocked me unconscious.”

He could not give the police a description of the suspect. It is unclear if the attacker was linked to the previous attacks.

Ringer did not require medical attention, but pointed out that several incidents occurred weeks before the Nov. 8 election.

“My neighborhood is safe,” Ringer told WTAE. ‘It’s quiet and there’s no crime. If you’re just trying to connect the dots, maybe. But I can’t say for sure.’

It’s unclear whether the latest attack was politically motivated, Ringer said.

The chilling attack comes days after a man was accused of breaking into Paul Pelosi’s home and hitting him in the head with a hammer.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband was attacked by a suspect by a man entering Pelosi’s $6 million San Francisco home around 3 a.m. Friday.

David DePape, 42, entered the bedroom where Paul, 82, slept and said he would wait for his wife to get home.

DePape later told investigators he intended to hold Nancy hostage and break her kneecaps.

The suspect reportedly had zip ties on him when he broke into the Pelosis’ home and yelled “Where’s Nancy?”

According to a Justice Department press release, Paul was able to call police, who arrived two minutes later and found himself fighting the suspect over a hammer.

DePape was charged Monday with assault and attempted kidnapping.
