In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Kinshasa marks the swearing-in day of the new Congolese president. Félix Tshisekedi was sworn in early in the afternoon, officially starting his second term in office, this Saturday, January 20, 2024. A ceremony will take place at the Martyrs of Pentecost stadium, the largest in the capital, in the presence of around fifteen heads of state.

In front of a stadium full of leaders, officials, supporters and activists, the Congolese president took the oath with a smile on his face.

“I, Mr. Tshisekedi Tshilombo Félix Antoine, President-elect of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, solemnly swear before God and the nation to faithfully carry out the high tasks entrusted to me.”

Official start of this second term in the middle of the Martyrs Stadium, a solemn moment followed by the firing of 21 cannons and especially the inauguration speech. A general political speech to lay the foundation for his next five years at the helm of the country with six commitments: more employment, purchasing power, security, diversification of the economy, access to health services. Basic and public services. The president also addressed the opposition: “You have your place in the government of our country. I will make sure.”

Speech that began with the usual thanks, especially for the heads of state present this Saturday, but also with a minute of silence “for the martyrs”.

At the end of this ceremony at Martyrs Stadium there will be a military parade. The officials then head to the People's Palace, the Congolese parliament, located right next to the stadium, to have a cocktail in the banquet hall.
