Former player Denílson again complained about the multimillion dollar default he took on from singer Belo in the early 2000s.
What did he say
Denílson laments that the standard has become a meme: “Some values have been turned upside down. This story of Belo that I’ve told several times laughing and joking, but deep down it’s a serious matter. Because it says a lot about people. I can’t break a contract with you, you owe yourself money and carry on with a normal life. How do you lay your head on the pillow?
Former player promises to do whatever it takes to get his money: “He didn’t pay me. And it’s not normal not to pay. It has nothing to do with justice anymore. Justice has done its part, it has won. Now it’s just a matter of paying. My account is x, deposits only.” ..He continues: He owes me one, and he doesn’t owe me one bit, no. And the worst thing is to say: “Forget that!”. Forget it? I will not forget it. He owes me miles, and it’s not small. How am I supposed to forget that? Maybe my kids will get it there, but I won’t let them rest, I’ll keep going. What is right is right and what is wrong is wrong.”
Singer Reviews: “When we meet, it’s dangerous for him to laugh in my face and grab my mother. ‘Cause a guy like him is like that, he lives like him, owes everybody else and that’s it, normal life… Nobody lives like that, bro. Only he lives like that.”
Denílson’s statements were broadcast to journalist Benjamin Back’s Benja me mucho podcast.
Understand the litigation between Denílson and Belo
Denilson and Belo have been in litigation for over 20 years. Before that, the two were friends.
In 1999, Belo led the group Soweto Pagoda while the former player had taken over the band’s management. But the partnership fell apart in 2000 when Belo left Soweto to pursue a solo career. Denílson sued the singer for breach of contract.
In 2004, the judiciary ordered Belo to compensate Denílson. No more resources. With fines and corrections, current debt exceeds R$5 million.
