He revealed this to Buzzfeed Canada during an interview at the Montreal premiere of his film on February 28th.
The famous director says he tried to include the swear word in one of the two films to please his admirers in Quebec.
“I was convinced that if I managed to incorporate the word ‘Tabarnak’ into one of the films, the people of Montreal would like it,” says Denis Villeneuve.
He even went so far as to ask actor Josh Brolin, who plays the character Gurney Halleck in both parts of Dune, to incorporate this into his dialogue.
“I asked him to use it once, but it didn’t work,” the director continues. The word is not well received from the mouth of an American. Sorry, I failed.”
The film “Dune: Part II” opened its first weekend in theaters with a bang at the North American box office, grossing $81.5 million.
It is the film that grossed the most in its first weekend in theaters in 2024.
