  • USDOT took immediate action and blocked access to the relevant systems to allow for a thorough investigation

The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) told lawmakers late Friday that a data breach is believed to have impacted the personally identifiable information of 237,000 current and former federal employees who receive employee transit benefits.

The violation affected systems processing TRANServe transit services, which reimburse government employees for part of their travel expenses.

USDOT said the breach had no impact on transportation security systems. It was not clear whether the personal data was used for criminal purposes.
