The Titans told Derrick Henry this week that they would not be trading him, but Tennessee has received at least one offer for the two-time NFL rushing champion and will continue to listen to offers from most players on their roster – including Henry – through Trading closes on Tuesday, according to sources.
While few players are off-limits for Tennessee and Henry’s contract is expiring, the Titans have a hefty price tag for their veteran star running back, who is expected to play against the Falcons today.
For a star player on a contract above the minimum who is traded mid-season, a mid-round pick is often enough. Sources have said the Titans are demanding more – an indication of how much they value the 29-year-old Henry and what it would take to part ways with him if they are still alive in the AFC playoffs at 2-4 .
Henry has a base salary of $10.5 million this season, so the new team would be responsible for the remaining $5.83 million unless Tennessee cashes in on a potential deal. The trading deadline is Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time. However, the deadline to renegotiate a contract to facilitate a trade is Monday at 4:00 p.m. ET, as the trade team must hold the contract within its salary cap for 24 hours.
