Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis encouraged people to continue boycotting Bud Light while promoting transgender personality Dylan Mulvaney, as he said conservative consumers have the “power” to hold the company accountable.

He also revealed his favorite beer alternative.

During a Monday night interview with political commentator Benny Johnson, DeSantis said he will no longer drink Bud Light because he doesn’t want to help enable “woke companies” and their goals to “try to change our country, to try to to change politics [and] try to change [the] Culture.”

“Why do you want to drink Bud Light? I mean, honestly, that’s like rubbing our faces in, and it’s like these companies do that, if they never get an answer, they’re just going to move on,” DeSantis told Johnson.

The Republican governor suggested that conservatives don’t have to sit on the sidelines on the issue, but they do have “power” to hit the company where it hurts: its bottom line.

The controversy began when the company celebrated Mulvaney’s “365 Days of Girlhood” by sending Mulvaney custom cans featuring the influencer’s face.

A video then showed Mulvaney in a bathtub drinking a Bud Light beer as part of the campaign.

“Bud Light sent me maybe the best gift ever: a tin with my face on it,” Mulvaney wrote, adding the hashtag #budlightpartner.

Anheuser-Busch CEO Brendan Whitworth addressed backlash from consumers and some celebrities in a statement released Friday, in which he neither apologized to offended customers nor expressed regret in the Mulvaney campaign.

“We never intended to be part of a discussion that divides people. We’re dedicated to bringing people together over a pint,” Whitworth said. “This country, this company, our brands and our partners are very important to me.”

The CEO added, “I will continue to work tirelessly to bring great beers to consumers in our country.”

Anheuser-Busch has lost $5 billion in value since the campaign began.

DeSantis also said, “Some of these controversies that come up, and people can just go, ‘Oh, well, it’s kind of a one-time thing, yeah, it was stupid to do it,’ but it’s part of a bigger thing, where Corporate America is trying to change our country. Trying to change politics, trying to change culture, and you know I’d rather be run by us the people than woke corporations and that’s what I think [the] Pushback is fine across the board, including Bud Light.”

As an alternative, the Florida Republican told Johnson that he and his wife, Florida First Lady Casey DeSantis, prefer a Guinness Draft.

“What would I do? My wife and I, if we’re just going out for a pint, we actually like the stout Guinness,” he explained, sharing that the couple have “always been a fan” since visiting Dublin, Ireland .

Earlier in the day, the DeSantis team also released a video mocking Bud Light by highlighting the “real men of women’s sports.”

The “Real Men of Women’s Sports” video parodies Bud Light’s “Real Men of Genius” campaign from the late 1990s and early 2000s.

In it, a voice reads: “Team DeSantis presents real men of women’s sport.”

The video then includes clips of trans swimmer Lia Thomas and other transgender athletes competing in their respective sports.

“Today we recognize the men who hacked the system,” the narrator continues jokingly. “Once mediocre for the men, now the cream of the crop for the women. From mediocrity to champion!”

The video goes on to say: “Because without you, sport would be fair. Without you, women’s sport would be something for women.”

DeSantis quickly made a name for himself among conservatives after moving from the US House of Representatives to the Florida governor’s mansion.

Once in office, he has used his platform to staunchly defend conservative issues and has been a vocal critic of “alertness.”

The Republican is reportedly considering a bid for the White House as early as 2024, though he has yet to announce his decision on whether to campaign.
