In his weekly column on Thursday in La Presse, former Quebec Mayor Régis Labeaume published a text entitled “The Casting Mistake” in which he proposed that Mr St-Pierre Plamondon be replaced by MP Pascal Bérubé before the election could. “Because if nothing changes, Pascal Bérubé will be the only elected PQ member to survive on the morning of October 4th. In Matane,’ said M. Labeaume.

“Mr Bérubé, as interim leader of the party, has already reached almost 20% in the polls. He is an experienced solid tribune with effective indignation, loved by the public and I have seen him smile over the last year… If so there would be no shame and anyone would understand if the PSPP declared that the party and the cause are more important than his person, and that he is handing over the reins to Pascal Bérubé, if only to increase his troops’ chances of re-election, if that is still possible,” suggested the former mayor.

This column by Mr. Labeaume did not go unnoticed on the floor of the Parti Québécois offices in Parliament. The party’s parliamentary leader, Joël Arseneau, invited Mr Labeaume to come and see for himself the situation of the troops, which he assured was far from grim.

” Most [des analystes] Praise the work of Paul St-Pierre Plamondon, his dignity, his grandeur, his authenticity and the fact that his beliefs are held and he does not deviate from them,” said Mr. Arseneau.

“Yesterday the whole group gathered around Paul was extremely satisfied with his work since his appointment,” he added.

In the latest Léger poll published in Quebecor media, Paul St-Pierre Plamondon was perceived by just 2% of respondents as the leader of a political party that would make the best prime minister. At the provincial level, too, the PQ closed the march of voting intentions with a meager 8%.
