ZA few more weeks and then the wait for baby Jesus will be over again. Many people also wish for a white Christmas this year. If temperatures rise again next week, we can still expect a white Christmas this year.

Every four to six years: It's rare that people in Lower Austria's capital, St. Pölten, can expect a blanket of snow during the Christmas holidays. According to GeoSphere Austria (formerly ZAMG), this is evident from the statistics. The chances of a white Christmas have halved in recent decades, according to the GeoSphere website. This year, the first snow fell in most of the country just in time for the first Advent and created an additional Christmas atmosphere at the Christmas markets in Lower Austria. However, there is bad news for winter lovers: the new week will be mild and busy.

Areas below 700 to 800 meters will remain snow-free next week, according to weather service Ubimet. Higher altitudes will also be affected by melting ice in the coming days. However, the amount of snow that has already fallen will probably be enough and the winter landscape will still be preserved, according to forecasts.

However, the hope of a white Christmas may also survive in the lowlands. According to the weather service, the possibility of snow for Christmas remains. The milder phase is expected to be short-lived, after which it will become colder and more wintry again. For the third weekend of Advent, it looks like it could be white again in the lowlands, says Ubimet. If winter does indeed start again mid-month, this snow would only have to last about a week until Christmas.
