Lévis-based emergency medical transport company Dessercom formalized its acquisition of Airmedic for $54 million on Monday afternoon.
Airmedic sought protection from its creditors in July following the financial collapse of the Huot Group and its owner Stéphan Huot. The entrepreneur became one of the rescue service’s two shareholders in 2012.
This transaction aims to “ensure sustainability” and “move on.” [la] “Growth” of the Quebec-based air ambulance company. The operation was partially financed by Investissement Québec and Desjardins Movement.
“Airmedic is the only private company that offers a safe medical assistance and air transport service adapted to any emergency situation,” Dessercom explains its decision in a press release.
The company, whose headquarters are on Quebec’s south coast, is also pleased to have been able to keep Airmedic, which was founded as a non-profit organization in 2000, under Quebec ownership.
Necessary transition
“We are pleased to look to the future with a partner who has been working in prehospital emergency services for 40 years and shares our values. […] Dessercom will provide stability and will be able to guide management in the deepening and development of several projects,” argues Airmedic CEO Sophie Larochelle.
Dessercom also confirms that the 150 field staff and management team of the new acquisition will remain in place. The air medical emergency transport specialist will continue to carry out its activities as a separate entity from its operational base in Saint-Hubert on Montreal’s south shore.
