The dismantling process

iFixit’s Shahram Mokhtari started the process by removing the Pixel 8 Pro’s screen. To do this, he used a heating mat to soften the adhesive holding the screen, pliers, and a pick to carefully lift the screen and remove it from the device. After the screen was separated, he unscrewed the main frame and folded back the 5G antenna cable.

When trying to remove the 5,050 mAh battery, disassembly was complicated. In fact, the plastic tabs designed to make this process easier have proven ineffective. This situation was not unprecedented as YouTube channel PBKreviews had encountered the same issue while disassembling the same device. Ultimately, iFixit and PBKreviews were able to remove the adhesive from the battery using isopropyl alcohol, a solution that is sometimes used in such situations but requires great care.

Remarkable discoveries

Beyond the difficulties of disassembly, this process allowed certain key components of the Pixel 8 Pro to be highlighted. Below is the camera module, consisting of a 50-megapixel main camera, a 48-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens and a 48-megapixel telescopic lens.

The other big discovery was the integrated thermometer, which is exclusive to the Pixel 8 Pro. This sensor, consisting of four circular elements, is located in the camera bar on the back of the device. It is designed to provide accurate readings of surface temperature. Google is still waiting for approval from the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) so that the sensor can be used to measure body temperature.

Finally, unlike what we see with the iPhone 15, the Pixel 8 Pro’s components aren’t locked by software, allowing users to swap out parts without being forced to buy directly from Google. Additionally, Google is committed to providing Android updates to Pixel 8 and 8 Pro for seven years to ensure the longevity of its devices’ software.
