The motive is not yet clear, but the barbaric murder of the president of a Detroit synagogue amid war in the Middle East and the return of terrorist attacks in Europe is terrifying the Jewish community in the United States. Samantha Woll, 40, leader of a progressive temple near the Democratic Party, was found lifeless in a pool of blood outside her home. Her killer beat her violently and repeatedly with a knife, according to initial police reconstruction reports. Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan said that the president’s death “leaves a huge void in the community” and recalled that just a few weeks ago they celebrated together the end of the synagogue’s work.
“We are shocked and saddened to learn of the unexpected death of Samantha Woll,” the temple said in a statement. Police are not releasing a motive for the time being, but assume that the murder took place inside the house and that the victim then dragged herself outside to seek help, leaving “a trail of blood” behind. Woll had also collaborated with the murder in the past. Representative Elissa Slotkin remembered her with a post on social media: “She dedicated her short life to building understanding between faiths and bringing light into the darkness.” The Democrats- Representative stated that the President worked for her by helping her create “It hurts my heart to have lost someone so dedicated to serving others through such a senseless act.” I will miss his tireless spirit of service and his radiant smile.”
