The first 63 generators to generate electricity for maintenance workshops and stations for the Ukrainian state railway have been loaded in Hanover, the railway announced on Friday.
After constant Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, the local railway receives support from Deutsche Bahn. The donated generators are also to be used on the trains to bridge the gap between providing light, heating and hot water. Another 325 emergency power generators were due to follow in January – to supply power to travelers and at worksites on Ukrainian railways.
“Despite the harshest conditions, the incredibly brave railway workers keep the railways running in Ukraine for as long as possible,” said railway chief Richard Lutz. “We support where help is urgently needed right now.” The generators would be loaded into a container in Hanover and shipped by truck to Hamburg – and from there by train to Kyiv.
