Diabo is a ratings success on Record, but scares on Renascer · TV

The devil is not as ugly as they portray in Globo's dramaturgy when it comes to Record's soap operas. The devil is a common character in biblical series, from the failed ones like “Revelation” (2015) to the successful ones like “Genesis” (2021). There, evil never frightened the audience on the contrary, it was always the perfect antagonist for its protagonists.

Edir Macedo's channel has never had much tact to talk about the devil, even with the predominantly Christian audience of its productions. The Prince of Darkness lay down and rolled over blocking the path of Jesus (Dudu Azevedo) and Abraão (Zécarlos Machado) without upsetting the viewer.

Globo, on the other hand, has doubled down on one of Renascer's main plots. José Inocêncios (Marcos Palmeira) Pauken, who was one of the protagonists of the first version, practically became a luxurious supporting character who never appears.

Pantanal (2022) was much more direct in addressing the pact between guitarist Trindade (Gabriel Sater) and Beelzebub, which became one of the highest points in the story. Two years ago, the demon apparently didn't terrify primetime audiences.

One of the main problems with Renascer's approach to the Pact of Mephistopheles is that Inocêncio is a very dubious character. The farmer isn't exactly a hero, but he's also far from a villain. He is the personification of someone who prays to God and the devil at the same time.

The main reason for the rejection of rural producers is precisely this dubiousness, which was not well received in 1993. So far the devil is paying for sins that are not necessarily his own.

The attempt to reduce the “weight” of Cramulhão to the audience also makes little sense given the changes in the profile of Lívio (Breno da Matta). The pastor reaches a more progressive group within the evangelicals with a less Manichean view of the world and more inclined to narratively accept José Inocêncio's inconsistencies.
