The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, attended today a commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Polisario Front at the Universal Hall of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of this capital.

Roberto Morales Ojeda, member of the Politburo of the PCC Central Committee and Secretary of the Organization, as well as other representatives of the Cuban party and government also attended.

In his address to those present, Jatri Aduh, member of the National Secretariat of the Polisario Front and special envoy of the President of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, thanked Cuba for its accompaniment, which has a glorious people whose progress will not be able to Country halt aggressive blockade of the United States.

Yudi Mercedes Rodríguez Hernández, member of the Central Committee Secretariat and head of its Services Department, brought a greeting from the Cuban people on the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Polisario Front.

We commemorate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Polisario Front, which united the aspirations of the fraternal Sarahauen people for independence and sovereignty into a single identity. Cuba’s perennial support and solidarity for its legitimate and historic cause, wrote Díaz-Canel on his social network Twitter account this Wednesday.

Founded in 1973, this national liberation movement aims to end the occupation of Morocco and finally liberate the territory.

Since its creation, the Polisario Front (Popular Front for the Liberation of Saguia el-Hamra and Río de Oro) has had contacts with Cuba.

The links with the PCC, based on respect, mutual political trust and peace, since December 1977 have allowed the development of Cuban medical cooperation on Sahrawi soil and educational exchanges with the presence of students of that republic in the Caribbean country.
