Doctors are very optimistic about the Pope’s recovery
Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel today wished Pope Francis a speedy recovery as he is hospitalized with a respiratory infection.
“We have learned that Pope Francis has been hospitalized with a respiratory infection. From Cuba, we wish His Holiness a speedy and full recovery,” the head of state wrote on his Twitter account.
Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez also sent his best wishes to the Pope on this social network.
The Pope was transferred to the Gemelli Polyclinic the day before because of a respiratory infection, the director of the Holy See’s press office, Matteo Bruni, said in a statement.
According to press reports, after a series of tests, the doctors ruled out Covid-19 and possible pneumonia or heart problems.
It has also been ruled out that the Pope has chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, pathologies that can affect the respiratory system.
However, it is an 86-year-old patient who, at the age of 21 as a seminarian in Argentina, had to undergo a partial resection of the lungs because of pneumonia.
For this reason, Francisco continues to be accommodated in a room in Wing E on the tenth floor of this health center, the same room he inhabited for ten days in July 2021 while undergoing colon surgery and previously used in several occasions of Pope John Paul II
All audiences with Pope Francis scheduled for Thursday and Friday this week have been canceled and it turns out that “space has been made on the agenda”, although doctors are very optimistic about the pope’s recovery.
