Actor Dick Van Dyke, 97, was involved in a car accident earlier this month, local law enforcement confirmed to CBS News. The accident involving a car happened on March 15 in Malibu, where the actor has a home.
Van Dyke is known for his various television and film roles over the years including roles on Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Mary Poppins and his own Dick Van Dyke Show.
TMZ was the first to report the accident on Wednesday, saying the roads were slick from the rainstorms in Los Angeles. News of the actor’s accident quickly spread across the Internet.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office’s Malibu Lost Hills Station told CBS News the accident was a minor collision.

It wasn’t immediately clear what injuries the actor might have sustained. CBS News has reached out to a Van Dyke representative and is awaiting a response.
In 2021, Van Dyke showed off his workouts on “CBS Mornings” and did sit-ups for Anthony Mason at his Malibu home. “I’m 95. And a lot of my friends don’t do that,” he said. “All you old people out there, listen to me, I’m telling you. You can go on – I’m still dancing and singing.”
That same year he was feted at the Kennedy Center Honors, which he said was unexpected and he’d been “trying to think about how I got there for the past few months”.
He also has five Emmys, a Tony, a Grammy, and a BAFTA. He also received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Screen Actors Guild.
