Miley Cyrus appeared to take a swipe at her ex-husband Liam Hemsworth as she performed her hit song “Flowers” at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday.
The 31-year-old American pop star gave an electrifying performance of the chart-topping breakup anthem during the ceremony after winning the award for Best Pop Solo Performance.
As she reached the song's bridge, Miley appeared to make several references to her divorce by improvising around the lyrics.
Miley sang, “I didn't want to leave you,” adding the line “but had to,” before singing the line “I didn't want to fight” and adding “but we did.”
Finally, the singer bragged about her big win by improvising the lyrics: “I started crying, but then I remembered…I just won my first Grammy!”

Social media pundits have speculated that Miley's additional lyrics were direct digs at Liam, who is also believed to be the subject of the song.
“The Liam shade between the lyrics where Miley says she just won a Grammy. 'Liam you are nothing,' one fan wrote, while another added: 'Liam Hemsworth is shaking in his boots right now, I know.' it is easy.”

“Flowers,” released to mark her ex's 33rd birthday, appears to contain a reference to the former couple's Malibu home, which burned down in the California wildfires, as well as various infamous, awkward moments between the two on the red Carpet.
In the opening verse, Miley sings that they “built a house and watched it burn,” likely referring to the $2.5 million home she lived in with Liam that burned down in the 2018 fires .
She also references the Australian star's sudden divorce filing, singing, “I didn't want to leave you / I didn't want to lie / Started crying.”
At the time, it was believed that Miley wanted to work on her 10-year relationship and was shocked when Liam suddenly filed for divorce in 2019.
