According to a Bild report, Ukraine is investigating its own war crimes. The trigger is an alleged torture video that is circulating on the internet.
The German newspaper “Bild” published the investigation on Monday. As a result, a five-minute video was posted on Sunday on the Telegram messaging service, which allegedly shows war crimes committed by Ukrainian soldiers and volunteer fighters against Russian prisoners of war.

According to “Bild”, the video shows about 20 alleged Ukrainians who mistreat, interrogate and shoot ten alleged Putin soldiers after they have already surrendered. The footage shows a shot aimed at the legs of three bound Russian prisoners. About seven other Russians are lying on the ground in the video with gunshot wounds to their legs.
Emotion after scandal clip
The video generated repercussions on social media. This is one of the reasons why an aide to Ukrainian President Volodymir Zelensky (44) commented on the torture recordings a few hours later, condemned them and promised an investigation by the military.
In an interview with Russian activist Mark Feygin, Oleksiy Arestovych said the video shows “absolutely unacceptable behavior”. “This is a war crime.” Arestovych stressed that “there will be an investigation” and those responsible will be “severely” punished. He appealed and promised at the same time: “We do not mistreat prisoners of war, we are a European army”.
Strong evidence of war crimes
The German tabloid showed the clip to two experts. According to them, the alleged Ukrainian perpetrators speak Russian in the video, but sometimes in an audible Ukrainian dialect. According to the German newspaper, the scenes would have taken place on Saturday or Sunday in the small town of Mala Rohan, about three kilometers south of the metropolis of Kharkiv, in eastern Ukraine.
According to “Bild”, Ukrainian journalist Yuriy Butusov reports that Mala Rohan was recaptured by Ukrainian troops on Saturday. “More than 30 Russian soldiers and their designated mercenaries from the occupied territories were captured.”
Numerous investigations
The war crimes suspects are Ukrainian soldiers of the Army’s 92nd Mechanized Brigade and volunteer squads associated with the Azov regiment. Overall, there are clear indications that the actions on the recordings are real war crimes, he said.
Numerous bodies such as the UN are currently investigating possible war crimes in Ukraine. Until now, however, suspicions have always preoccupied Russian troops. The Kremlin has denied reports of war crimes by Russian soldiers. A comparable investigation of Russia has not yet been carried out.
