247 Former President Dilma Rousseff, in a text published on her social networks, questioned the decision of the Deputy Judge of the TJRJ, Monica Ribeiro Teixeira, who again denied the authorship of the song “Roda Viva” to Chico Buarque trial in which the Singersongwriter sued MP Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL) for improper use of the song.
In the lawsuit, Chico is asking for his music to be removed from Eduardo’s post, R$48 million in compensation and posting the conviction on Instagram. In 1968 the text became the inspiration for a play when the cast was defeated by the military regime. For Dilma, the song “awakened” us at the time and “still inspires us”.
The former president asks what the judge’s intention was: ‘Are you ignoring the abuse that Eduardo Bolsonaro made of the song? After all, how can you justify that an antimilitary dictatorship song was inappropriately used in support of the fascism that he, Eduardo Bolsonaro, represents without the permission of its author, Chico Buarque?”
Read the full lyrics below and listen to the song also posted by Dilma:
“Roda Viva” is by Chico Buarque and the testimonies come from many generations
What is the basis of the judge’s verdict that concluded that there was no evidence that the song “Roda Viva” was written by our great composer, musician and poet Chico Buarque de Holanda? Are you ignoring the abuse Eduardo Bolsonaro made of the song? So how can one justify that a song aimed at fighting military dictatorship was improperly used without the permission of its author, Chico Buarque, in support of the fascism that he, Eduardo Bolsonaro, represents?
Only Chico Buarque deny authorship.
Or is it sheer ignorance that one of the most beautiful songs in MPB history was written by Chico Buarque in 1967, sung by him at a festival, awarded first place and moved a whole generation of Brazilian men and women? And that all of us, of this generation and those to come, can win ourselves as witnesses to Chico’s authorship and the deep emotion that Roda Viva aroused in us and still inspires?
Perhaps TJRJ substitute judge Monica Ribeiro Teixeira can use the fact that she wasn’t born at the time of the song’s release as an excuse to ignore Roda Viva’s authorship. But in this case, the difficulty could have been quickly resolved with a query to Google and ECAD to find out what the whole country already knows.
See below the evidence that the music that enchanted Brazil and is fundamental to this day was penned by one of the greatest Brazilian composers of all time: Chico Buarque, singing SUA Roda Viva at the Song Festival as his victory was announced became:
