Former President Dilma Rousseff (PT) this Tuesday (March 28) began her first day at work as President of the New Development Bank (NDB), known as the Bank of the Brics. Dilma was received at the institution’s headquarters in Shanghai, China, where she toured the facilities and met with other officers and directors.
Brics is the economic bloc formed by Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, and its bank is responsible for investing in infrastructure and sustainable development for both member countries and other nations.

Bloc members take turns chairing the institution, and Brazil will remain in command until July 2025. Dilma was nominated for the post by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and elected by the institution’s Board of Governors last FridayFriday (24th). The group consists of finance ministers from the member countries as well as representatives from Bangladesh, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Uruguay, who have been admitted to the FIS.
Dilma’s inauguration ceremony is scheduled for tomorrow (29th) in Shanghai. The idea was that President Lula would attend, but he postponed his trip to China last week to recover from pneumonia. The expectation is that the event will not be postponed.
