Director James Cameron Reveals Avatar 2’s Official Title; Teases first footage at CinemaCon – PINKVILLA

director JamesCameron is now ready to show audiences its otherworldly underwater vision for the long-awaited sequel to Avatar, after at least seven delays in the last eight years (the film was originally scheduled for a 2014 release). It is titled Avatar: The Way of Water.

avatar 2 has been in development for almost a decade, with little behind-the-scenes glimpses released from time to time, including a look at some concept art and character introductions. During this time there were also rumors about the names of the planned sequels, one of which was Avatar: The Way of Water. Now at CinemaCon, according to Variety, Disney has verified those speculations and revealed that Avatar: The Way of Water is the official title for the first Avatar sequel, set for release on December 16, 2022.

Interestingly, footage from the film was also unveiled at the event. CinemaCon attendees were given 3D glasses to view the minute-long video, which contained virtually no speech. Instead, sweeping vistas of the planet’s crystal blue waters and lakes immersed visitors in different aspects of Pandora’s fascinating universe. The film also features the indigenous Na’vi interacting with various creatures resembling whales and pelicans, some of which, according to Variety, flew through the screen and into viewers’ faces thanks to three-dimensional technology.

Avatar: The Way of Water, set more than a decade after the events of the first film, begins to tell the story of the Sully family – Jake, Neytiri and their children – and the troubles that follow them, the struggles they make, to keep everyone else safe, the struggles they fight to stay alive and the tragedies they must endure. In the meantime, the trailer will be shown exclusively in theaters ahead of the May 6 release of Marvel’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
