A retired couple just announced they had discovered a “makeshift memorial” to Maddie McCann in December 2007 near the area recently searched by investigators.
This is information that has been ignored for years. In December 2007, a retired couple discovered one mysterious “shrine” built to commemorate little Maddie McCann, near the area recently excavated by investigators near a dam in southern Portugal, says The Independent. It was a “makeshift memorial” consisting of a photograph of the little girl, stones and flowers.

“I went down to the reservoir with our daughter and the dog. Our daughter ran in front of us and suddenly she called out: ‘Quick, come and see’ someone must have died here‘” said the pensioner who spotted the memorial. At the time of this discovery, a few months after the little girl’s disappearance, the couple had reported this disturbing element to the Portuguese police and even sent photos of this strange monument. However, investigators did not react to this tip. But two days later, the “sanctuary” had mysteriously disappeared.

“So strange”
“When we found it back then, everything was so strange. I thought, “Did someone throw Madeleine into the water and then come back and build a shrine to her memory?” It was so strange‘ the retiree recalled. It wasn’t until 2020 that investigators finally exploited this clue. At the time, the German police had launched an appeal for witnesses and the couple then contacted them to tell what they had seen. as reported by the Chron.
“The German police were very interested in what we had seen. She wanted to know everything and then asked me to send them the photos and they sent me a map of the reservoir with a request to indicate where the stones were. “As the crow flies.” , it was only 2 kilometers from where the police dug last week.”
