Disappearance of Serge Boutin: the suspects are tried separately –

The two suspected murderers in the case of Serge Boutin, who has been missing for two and a half years, will ultimately be tried separately.

Her trial was scheduled to take place in early November but was postponed.

The victim’s body has not been found since July 7, 2021. The 53-year-old man was last seen on Fréchette Street in Val-des-Source in Estrie.

A month after their disappearance, police arrested the alleged couple, Lana Dubois and Charles Lassonde.

Originally charged with kidnapping, forcible confinement and armed assault, a joint charge of first-degree murder was filed last January following a preliminary investigation.

In an “EX PARTE” proceeding, a motion made before a judge alone in the absence of the defense attorneys, the prosecution obtained that the two be tried separately.

Charles Lassonde’s case will be tried by a jury for the first time on January 3rd.

There is therefore the possibility that his former partner, with whom he has been together for 49 years, could be called as a witness for the prosecution.

However, if this were to happen, her testimony could not be used against her to incriminate her in her own trial.

The Supreme Court will set a trial date for Lana Dubois on January 8th.
