The Coroner’s Office has confirmed that Kevin Timneu Fezeu, one of the two Laval University students wanted since Sunday night, is the suspect and that an inquest is being conducted to determine the cause and circumstances of his death. .

“During an examination, the coroner assumes temporary responsibility for the body of the deceased, establishes his identity, and may order an autopsy, toxicological analysis, or any other opinion deemed necessary. He then hands over the body to the family,” spokesman Jake Lamotta Granato said.

From the Parc des Saules to the mouth of the river, provincial and Quebec police had resumed the search, surveying the area with a fine-toothed comb since 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.

shocked friends

Completely dismayed friends who knew Kevin Timneu Fezeu from Laval University ran to the river near the bike path bridge where the tragedy happened.

Despite the pain, the discovery of the body brings some comfort, said Samuel Éric Kamgang, a close friend.

“Our hope was still that we could find him alive. Now we can mourn in complete serenity,” he said.

Kevin Timneu Fezeu was supposed to celebrate his 29th birthday last Monday. According to his relatives, he was a pharmacist by profession in Cameroon. He was an extremely sociable person, had many friends and was always willing to help.

He was a student at Laval University in Business and Administration for almost a year and had many projects.

“Death as a Hero”

To the knowledge of his friends, he did not have good swimming skills, which would not have prevented him from jumping into the water at the risk of his life to save a young woman who had fallen in front of him and of whom we still have no news.

“He’s very social. He approaches others easily. He said I was his mother in Canada. I don’t live in dorms, so I left my house in the car, I went to the university to bring him food or anything,” said Solange Ngambou, who met him on campus.

“It’s really difficult because I couldn’t talk to him before. I always hoped that maybe we could hold him to a tree or a root and still breathe, that he would at least tell us what he went through before he left. It’s very difficult,” she continued.

“I don’t even want to imagine the pain of the family who put everything into their project because it’s not easy to come to Canada to study, it costs $22,000 a year, so imagine that Parents had to spend everything to come here. He had many projects, he explained how he had to support his family in return,” she says.

“He really leaves us speechless […] He died a hero and that’s really his personality,” she said through a sob in her voice.

four days of research

It was the fourth day of searches for authorities since a man and woman in their 20s sank in the waters of the Saint-Charles River around 6 p.m. Sunday.

Remember that the flow of the river was particularly intense during the incident at around thirty cubic meters per second, six times higher than usual.

Nautical teams, divers, drones, dog handlers, foot patrols and investigators were also on site on Wednesday mornings.

In 72 hours, some objects were found in the approximately 10 km long search area. However, it was not possible to confirm whether there was a connection with the missing persons.

The young woman missing in this case is still missing.
