Environmental issues and prostitution related to the Montreal Grand Prix are causing uneasiness in Mayor Valérie Plante’s party.

“There is a malaise for climate issues and everything that revolves around prostitution,” Councilor Marie Plourde, a member of the Projet Montréal party, said today.
In her opinion, Montreal is “taken by” treaties made by the Coderre administration and must respect them.

“I don’t think we can stop everything overnight,” commented Laurence Lavigne-Lalonde, mayor of the Villeray-Saint-Michel-Parc-Extension district. […] There is a contract. We don’t throw all our contracts in the trash.”

Recently, environmentalists have proposed scrapping Montreal’s F1 race, saying it’s inconsistent with the city’s green goals, which is run by a party with strong environmental values.
The mayor’s office promised that she would respond to reporters tomorrow. After learning of our interviews with other elected officials, the Cabinet responded.
“Everyone must contribute to the ecological transition and the questions that the population is raising at this time are important and must be heard by the Grand Prix organizers,” we were told.
