Disgusting moment: DoorDash driver spits on customer’s food after receiving $3 tip for half-mile ride
- A DoorDasher was caught on video spitting on his customer’s food
- The delivery man was disappointed by her tip that a Miami teenager was “good” for the half-mile delivery trip
A DoorDash customer was left salivating while eating takeout after the delivery man was caught spitting on the food as vile revenge for a “small tip.”
Elias Crisanto, 13, ordered food for himself and his mother to be delivered to their Miami apartment. The teen gave his DoorDash delivery driver a $3 tip, which he said was “good” for the driver’s half-mile drive.
Crisanto observed the delivery in real time via the Ring doorbell camera and it appears normal at first.
The delivery man, a man wearing a casual outfit of flip-flops and shorts, approached the door and placed the food down before taking a photo to prove the food had been delivered.
But in a sickening moment captured on Ring camera footage, the DoorDasher is seen crouching down to spit on the food, not once or twice, but three times.
The “Dasher” squatted down and spit on the food three times after being disappointed with his tip
DoorDash said: “While we understand how frustrating it is not to receive a tip, this behavior is unacceptable and falls well short of the quality experience we strive to provide.”
The Spanish-speaking delivery guy strutted off, complaining that he hadn’t received a good tip for picking up and delivering the food within a half-mile radius.
Elias told Telemundo 51 he observed the incident via the security camera app on his phone.
“Nobody knows whether it wasn’t the camera. “I wanted to throw up because who does that?” the teenager asked.
According to Florida’s Anti-Tampering Food Act, food tampering is a felony in the state of Florida.
If a person is convicted of food tampering, it is considered a second-degree felony, which can result in penalties such as up to 15 years in prison or a $10,000 fine.
DoorDash responded to the disgusting situation in a statement:
“While we understand the frustration of not receiving a tip, this behavior is unacceptable and falls well below the high level of quality we strive to provide.”
“We have removed Dasher from our platform and have reached out to the customer directly to help make things right.”
According to DoorDash, their “Dashers” are paid through a base DoorDash salary that ranges from $2 to more than $10 per delivery, depending on the estimated duration, distance and desirability of the order.
“Deliveries that are expected to take more time, require drivers to travel a longer distance, and are less popular with drivers have a higher base salary,” the food delivery company says on its website.
When “thieves” only receive $2 from the company on a delivery, it’s no surprise that they’re angry enough to spit over a tip that increased the total expense to $5.
This isn’t the first time a delivery man has been caught spitting food out of revenge.
A lazy delivery man in China was caught red-handed after being asked to bring food to the door. The customer then said that spit was dripping down the bag and the bag smelled of saliva.
