Disney hasn’t censored any of the Netflix Marvel shows, including Daredevil and Jessica Jones

Somewhat surprisingly, Disney Plus is now streaming the full roster of Netflix Marvel shows, including Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and more. But despite the adult content on these shows, Disney didn’t seem to censor or change anything for the Disney Plus release.

IGN did an exhaustive comparison of the various The Defenders shows, from when they aired on Netflix to how they appear on Disney Plus, and we found that Disney hasn’t removed anything from those shows.

When comparing strings across 382 episodes and 10 seasons, IGN tracked all instances of violence or sexual innuendo from Netflix’s The Defenders to how they appear on Disney Plus and found that nothing had been removed.

Daredevil: 9 Reasons Season 3 Changed Marvel Comics

This includes Luke Cage’s sex scene with Jessica Jones in the Jessica Jones movie premiere, the plethora of violence in Daredevil, or the dialogue in Luke Cage. According to our research, everything stays the same and is not censored.

Some of the mature moments we looked for in the Disney Plus streams include:

  • Wilson Fisk smashes a bandit’s head with a car door (Daredevil S1 E5)
  • Man gets shot in the face (Daredevil S1 E13)
  • Daredevil and Elektra sex scene (Daredevil S2 E5)
  • Stick that opens Elektra’s wound (Daredevil S2 E8)
  • Elektra slits a man’s throat (Daredevil S2 E8)
  • Jessica Jones sex scene with Luke Cage (Jessica Jones S1 E1)
  • Will’s neck is broken (Jessica Jones S2 E2)
  • Trish’s Mom Killed (Jessica Jones S3 E8)
  • Strip Club Scene (Luke Cage S1 E1)
  • Man Burned Alive (Luke Cage S2 E10)
  • Bushmaster gouges out a man’s eye with a knife (Luke Cage S2 E1)
  • Billy and Agent Madani sex scene (Punisher S1 E6)
  • Billy extracts bullets from his own body (S2 E13)

Disney Plus, at least in North America, is known for sticking to a PG-13 rating for its content, with more mature content going to Hulu, another Disney-owned streaming service. But the Defenders show seems to be the exception.

However, Disney has added new age limits to Disney Plus, asking users if they want to access the full library that includes adult content, or opt for a more secure library that doesn’t show some new adult shows.

It should also be noted that outside of North America, Disney Plus hosts many shows and movies aimed at older audiences through regional licensing agreements and deals.

Every character in Defenders

Will this allow movies like Logan and Deadpool to appear on Disney Plus? It’s still too early to tell, but certainly the addition of unedited versions of the Netflix Marvel series does open up more options for the Disney family streaming service for some users.
