Disney in Shanghai is closing doors and detaining visitors for Covid testing

The Shanghai Disney Resort, a complex that also includes the amusement park, abruptly ceased operations today to comply with Covid19 prevention measures. Visitors who were in the park at the time of the announcement were urged to remain in the park until they tested negative for the virus.

The resort announced the immediate closure of the main theme park and surrounding areas, including its shopping street, until further notice to comply with the restrictions imposed by Covid19. The organization reported on Saturday that it had started operations with a reduced workforce in order to comply with the measures. Shanghai reported 10 locally transmitted cases in people with no symptoms on October 30.

The Shanghai government said on its official WeChat account that the park restricts people from entering or exiting and that all visitors must wait for their test results before exiting the facilities.

In addition, anyone who has visited the park since October 27 would have to be tested three times in three days, according to the government.

During the closure today, the park continues to operate rides for visitors stranded in the park, according to CNN.

At Shanghai Disney Resort, the spokesman said the resort is still operating with “limited offers” and is following measures according to guidelines from Chinese health authorities.

The closure marks the latest pause in activity at Disney Resort, which was closed for more than three months during the Shanghai lockdown earlier this year.

The park was also closed for two days in November last year, with more than 30,000 visitors stranded after authorities ordered everyone to be tested as part of a contacttracing operation.
