Bad news for Disney Plus subscribers. The media giant announced that it would increase the price of its streaming service from $7.99/month to $10.99/month. (The annual price will also increase from $79.99/year to $109.99/year). The new tariffs will come into effect on December 8th. An ad-supported version of Disney Plus will also launch on that date for $7.99/month. (There is currently no annual option for the upcoming ad-supported tier).
However, there is a trick you can use now to avoid paying the higher rate. If you’re not a member and you’ve been on the fence, just lock in the Disney Plus price of $7.99/month ($79.99/year) by signing up now (opens in new tab). If you’re a current member, your best bet is the Annual Disney Bundle (opens in new tab). The Disney bundle offers the best value, increasing by just $1 from $13.99 per month to $14.99 per month — a savings of around $14 over the new one Price. It includes ad-free Disney Plus and ad-supported Hulu/ESPN Plus.
News of the price hikes comes as Disney announces it added 14.4 million subscribers in the third quarter for a total of 152 million Disney Plus subscribers.
Still, Disney Plus is one of the best streaming services, offering a massive amount of content including Marvel, Star Wars, Disney’s own animated canon, and The Simpsons (all 30+ seasons and counting). Much of the content is also available in 4K resolution with HDR color palettes.
