(Ottawa) “We will appeal the ruling,” Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault confirmed Monday. Last week, the Federal Court lifted the ban on six single-use plastic items.

“We want to remove this plastic from our environment, from our neighborhood, from people – plastic microspheres are now found in the human brain. This affects the fetuses and growth of our children,” he said.

In a written statement sent less than an hour before the press conference, Minister Guilbeault and his justice colleague Arif Virani accused conservative leader Pierre Poilievre of passing on false information. Contrary to what is claimed, the government does not want to “ban all plastics”.

They recall that the government has banned “six harmful single-use plastic products”. The decree included shopping bags, utensils, stirrers, straws, take-out food containers and rings for tying soda cans.
