DJ Mark the 45 King dead at 62: Eminem and Jay-Z’s music producer passes away as Queen pays touching tribute to Latifah, saying ‘His spirit will live forever’

DJ Mark the 45 King has died at the age of 62.

The music professional had worked with big names such as Eminem, Jay-Z and Queen Latifah, who erected a memorial to him after the news of his death.

“It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of my beloved mentor DJ Mark the 45 King!” Queen Latifah said in a statement. “He believed in me above all others.” He touched every life he encountered.

“I’ve never met anyone like him; He wanted everyone around him to win. His spirit was magical and will surely live forever.’

Eminem wrote on Twitter: “Legends are never over…I am eternally grateful.”

The music professional had contributed to notable hits such as Eminem’s 2000 song “Stan”, Jay-Z’s 1998 song “Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem)” and Queen Latifah’s breakout hit “Ladies First” in 1989.

DJ Mark the 45 King worked as a producer for artists such as MC Lyte, Craig Mack and Rakim; He had also remixed music for artists such as Madonna, Public Enemy, Lisa Stansfield, Salt-N-Pepa and Eric B. & Rakim.

DJ Premier, the famed producer and Gang Starr alum, spoke about his late colleague’s tremendous legacy and talents in a memorial service

“His sound was unlike any other, especially his heavy drums and horns were so clearly heard on every production,” he said.

He noted that Mark, who turned 62 earlier this week, was responsible for “so many classics” from a number of prominent artists.

He thanked music industry professional Dave Lotwin for inviting him on a FaceTime call with Mark during his hospital stay “to greet him one last time before his transition,” adding, “I know he was loud and heard clearly.”

DJ Premier concluded: “Sleep well Mark, thank you for everything you have done.” “You are such a special part of our culture, carved into the stone of the greatest parts of us.”

A representative for the late producer confirmed his death to Variety on Thursday. His cause of death was not revealed.
