DJ Paul elaborates on his earlier comments at Gangsta Boo’s funeral, where he said he paid for the services and explains why he was absent.
In a statement to TMZ on Monday (Jan. 16), the rapper Three 6 Mafia added the other big names who helped foot the bill for Boo’s funeral. He also noted how “annoying” it was to even address naysayers on such a negative topic.
“The fact that I even had to address negative things behind the scenes is really annoying,” DJ Paul said. “I spearheaded the planning and paid for most of Boo’s funeral. Others offered their help to show Boo their love. It was only right to include her as we all loved Boo.
“I previously explained why I did not attend the funeral and for that very reason, as I feel it is inappropriate to draw attention,” he continued. “Boo and my relationship was just ours, she knew (and knows) where my heart was in it. I don’t have to explain that to anyone.”
According to the report, other Memphis legends like Juicy J, 8Ball & MJG and more also lent a hand to pay for the services.
DJ Paul’s original comments came Sunday morning (January 15) in a since-deleted Instagram video after he was called online for not attending Gangsta Boo’s memorial service in Southaven, Mississippi the day before.
“Let me explain something to all you assholes out there who have anything to say about me not coming to Boo’s funeral,” he began. “N-gga, I paid for the funeral, whore! I’m on a muthafuckin tour and even if I wasn’t I don’t do funerals, n-gga!
“Last time I was at a funeral there was nothing but a bunch of groupie asses, muthafuckin’ n-ggas in that muthafucka.”
He continued, “Boo know how much I loved her, I know how much she loved me, n-gga. I don’t have to prove anything to any of you punk ass, groupie ass n-ggas up there.”
Paul went on to remind those who had something to say about his absence that many of Gangsta Boo’s talents might not even have known without him.

“Because there wouldn’t be more than four or five muthafuckas in it if it wasn’t for the one I created. N-gga what I created,” he said. “The young girl I found. N-gga, I’m the one who wrote the “Where Dem Dollas At” hook, n-gga. I’m the one who wrote and produced this shit. Yes, she did her verses, she did a few hooks. Juicy [J] made beats, he made hooks. But I found them, n-gga! I went to school with her, she went to school with me.”
Gangsta Boo died at the age of 43 on January 1st in her hometown of Memphis.
While DJ Paul was not present at her service, hundreds of mourners including GloRilla, Drumma Boy, La Chat, Memphitz and more were present to pay their respects.
TMZ reports that a posthumous Gangsta Boo album is now in the works, among other “special” projects.
