interesting conclusions
The study, conducted by a team from the University of Nicosia in Cyprus and published in the journal Evolutionary Psychology, brought together Greekspeaking men and women of different ages. They ran three separate experiments and came to some very interesting conclusions.
first experiment
In the first experiment, 219 participants were asked to let their imagination run wild and imagine themselves in a romantic relationship. They answered a series of questions about past behavior and what they would do in the future to improve their lives together. From these answers, 81 different measures were identified.
second experiment
In the second experiment, 511 participants had access to the measures listed above and had to estimate the likelihood of using them to improve the relationship.
third experiment
In the third experiment with 367 people, the process was very similar.
After analyzing all of the responses, the researchers were able to identify 14 broader strategies people commonly use to improve their relationships. And guess which ones were the most effective?
- Try to understand each other’s needs;
- Discuss issues with partner or partner;
- Show interest in your loved one.
Interestingly, selffocused efforts such as nurturing or selfimprovement were the least effective and underused strategies.
But look! Men and women differed in certain behavior: men were more willing to make concessions and compromises. Additionally, women found it more effective to show interest in their partner and avoid detachment and grumpiness.
Now it is worth remembering that this study was conducted using a sample of Greek people, so the results may not be applicable to other cultures. It is also important to note that the survey was selfreported, which can lead to biased responses.
But despite these caveats, the researchers believe this analysis can serve as a starting point for future theoretical and empirical research. In addition, it can be a source of inspiration for those who want to build successful relationships and offers effective ideas for strengthening emotional bonds.
