Olsen will reprise her role as Wanda in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film, something teased in the first trailer for Multiverse of Madness, which premiered as the end credits scene for Spider-Man: No Way Home. While No Way Home also confirmed that Wong is now the official Sorceror Supreme, co-producer Richie Palmer teased that Multiverse of Madness will define how powerful Scarlet Witch is.

“I don’t know who is more powerful than Wanda,” Palmer said. “Meet Wanda Maximoff at the end of [Avengers: Endgame] would have been a lot for Strange. Who is the most powerful being in the universe? Maybe we’ll find out by the end of the movie.”

While the film will confirm if Scarlet Witch is actually stronger than Doctor Strange, Olsen herself added that she was “excited to engage in dialogue with her [star Benedict Cumberbatch]’ said she ‘really enjoyed it [their] constant conversation, analysis and trying to understand where both characters come from.” Olsen finished filming her Doctor Strange retakes in September.

In a December 2021 interview, Cumberbatch commented on the scale of the production, saying he wasn’t entirely sure the sequel was truly “his” film. “A lot of stuff happens there,” he said at the time. “It’s like, do I have a character sheet in it? It works? No, there are great things for me to do. It’s very busy. It’s called The Multiverse of Madness and it’s crazy.”

The first trailer for Multiverse of Madness teased everything that MCU Phase 4 was heading towards, showing not only a possible collaboration between Doctor Strange, Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch and Wong, but also the MCU debut of America Chavez/Miss America (Xochitl Gomez). Multiverse of Madness will not only pick up after the events of No Way Home, but will directly tie into two of Marvel’s Disney+ series, WandaVision and Loki, both of which have dealt heavily with the multiverse.

Multiverse of Madness recently completed extensive re-recordings, which it said were “significant” when it launched in November 2021. The additional material was directed by director Sam Raimi and writer Michael Waldron, who served as head writer for Loki. Raimi took over directing from Scott Derrickson, who directed the first film and left the sequel due to creative differences.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is currently scheduled for release on May 6th, 2022.
