Dodgers' Julio Urías will not be charged with a crime after his arrest on suspicion of domestic violence – The Athletic

The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office will not file felony charges against former Dodgers pitcher Julio Urías for his September arrest, The Athletic learned Tuesday night.

ESPN first reported the development. Urías' case will be referred to the public prosecutor's office for consideration of a criminal complaint.

Urías was arrested on September 3 on suspicion of aggravated domestic violence outside an LAFC game at BMO Stadium against Inter Miami, where Urías “was involved in an argument in which the defendant pushed the victim against a fence and grabbed her hair.” or shrugged shoulders,” the district’s report states. However, the district held that “neither the victim’s injuries nor the defendant’s criminal history warranted criminal charges.”

Major League Baseball placed Urías on leave on September 6th and did not throw a single pitch for the rest of the season. Urías, 27, is now a free agent. The league has continued to investigate Urías while his trial is ongoing. This process is expected to be accelerated once the legal part is completed.

Dodgers await next steps after Julio Urías arrest: 'Extremely disappointing'

The leagues' and players' union's joint domestic violence policy states that the league can punish a player even without criminal charges. Urías served a 20-game suspension in 2019 after he was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence and not charged. This policy was introduced in 2015 and no player has ever been banned twice.

Urías returned to the Dodgers after the suspension in 2019 and was the man on the mound for the 2020 World Series finale a year later before receiving Cy Young votes in each of the following two seasons. Following his arrest in September, the Dodgers quickly deleted images and depictions of Urías' tenure with the club.
