A six-year-old female crossbreed, Aquarius, spent almost two years at the Marion County Animal Services Shelter in Ocala, Florida. She leaves the title of the shelter’s oldest resident by joining Warren Robbins and his family.

love at first sight

The Aquarius wasn’t one of the most “fashionable” dogs. Adopters often look for purebred dogs or dogs that have been socialized with other animals. And yet, when she visited the shelter, it was love at first sight between the dog and Warren Robbins, her future master.

She is a dog described by shelter staff as “extremely affectionate, funny”, “loyal and full of potential”. Aquarius is also a quiet dog, and this trait appealed to Robbins. This pit bull cross appeared to be the perfect companion for her 2-year-old son and baby-to-be.

An unexpected adoption

“We wanted to adopt a cat and came back with a dog,” Robbins told Ocala Star Banner. The family will eventually only go with Aquarius, who must be the only animal in the household, which had put off other potential adopters. The 32-pound dog’s arrival at her new home required certain rules to be put in place, such as cage confinement while her masters were away and storing items or treats. Luckily, Robbins had adopted a 12-year-old pit bull back in 2011 and kept some good reflexes from him.

that obvious

Aside from being a quiet dog, Aquarius seduced his master because his name actually corresponds to Robbins’ zodiac sign (Aquarius means “Aquarius” in French). “Okay, that’s it,” he said.

Today the family has retained the Aquarius name. The bitch fits perfectly into her new home and makes her residents very happy. She “adores” Robbins’ son and “is doing wonderfully,” according to his master. “She just wants to be kissed, cuddled and petted.”
