Dog rescued from US cave Abby missing for 2 months News by the Minute

One caver — an expert in caving — didn’t expect to be part of a rescue mission for Abby, a 13yearold dog missing for about two months in Perry County, Missouri.

“She had no obvious injuries but was very malnourished, just skin and bones. She was also covered in mud,” Rick Haley said.

According to the 66yearold, when he found Abby 152 meters from the cave entrance, she was scared, didn’t want to leave and had to be carried in a suitcase with a blanket around her. According to US publications, the rescue took an hour.

Haley, 66, rescued the animal with the help of a colleague interrupting the planned visit with a group of about 30 people. The two experts learned about the animal after the warning was given by a couple who had previously visited the cave.

They both went through very narrow passages until they found the animal which was next to a small stream with small fish and crustaceans but was totally dark which would have helped Abby who is already with the owner to survive.

The “hero” also says that the animal probably entered the cave while chasing an animal a mouse or a raccoon and was pushed to the bottom of the cave due to the characteristic rains.

The cave is part of the Moore System, the state’s second largest group of caves, approximately 35 kilometers long.
