Doja Cat has released new single ‘Attention’, a hopeful little taste of what her yet to be announced fourth album might sound like.

Built around a funky mid-tempo beat with swirling harps galore, the track showcases Doja’s newer, grittier direction. In May, the 27-year-old claimed her previous two albums had been “money heists,” and tweeted: “I realized I hadn’t done anything personal and that I was putting out digestible pop hits for kids on Twitter that they engage with “Attention” focuses more on rap verse than candy pop hooks and builds on the same theme, with lyrics like “You follow me, but the music doesn’t really interest you.”

The accompanying music video is also a change of pace for Doja – while the videos for Planet Her’s singles relied on her flair for sexual playfulness, the video for Attention features gritty imagery such as Doja being covered in blood from head to toe between takes is of her strutting through the streets of Los Angeles. Directed by Tanu Muino, it proclaims her desire to change her public image — as another text says, Doja isn’t “afraid to finally say shit with my chest.” Watch the music video for “Attention” below.

“Attention” is Doja’s first piece of new music since “Vegas” from the Elvis soundtrack and her contribution to the SZA remix “Kill Bill”. Last year, she showed off her skills with a cover of Hole’s “Celebrity Skin” for a Taco Bell Super Bowl commercial. Her last studio album was 2021’s Planet Her.
