Dolly Parton has a dozen Grammys, an Emmy, a Tony, Golden Globes, a couple of Oscar nominations, and not one but two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame — and she’s still going strong.
But in an interview with Pollstar, Dolly revealed she’s giving up her stylish touring boots forever — and it’s because of the people she loves most.
“I don’t think I’ll ever be touring again, but I know I’ll do special shows here and there now and then,” she said. “Maybe a long weekend of shows or just a few shows at a festival. But I no longer intend to go on a full-blown tour.”
“I’ve been doing this my whole life and it takes so much time and energy. I like staying a little closer to home with my husband. We’re getting older now and I don’t want to be gone for four or five weeks at a time.”
All the more reason for Dolly to finally take off from “9 to 5” when it comes to the touring portion of her nearly seven-decade career.
“Something could happen. I wouldn’t feel comfortable if I was gone and someone needed me. Or I would feel bad if I had to leave a tour, if someone at home got sick and needed me, and then I would have to go to the fans.”
Dolly also knows that putting a tour together takes a lot of work and that she might just not be up to it. “You have to work weeks to come up with a great new show, a new tour that they haven’t seen before. It takes months to actually plan a tour, booking dates and all that.”
“I wouldn’t say I try to do anything other than what feels right. I can kind of make choices these days at my age and the years I’ve been in business.”
The world loves you, Dolly. Bow and have a seat.
