A ratings boom for the actor’s debut in the TV series Rai 1, which has reached its 13th edition. Bernabei: “Raoul has a good glow in his eyes and the public has noticed”
If it’s not a miracle, we’re close. After that of the loaves and fishes, it was the turn of Raoul Bova’s debut in “Don Matteo” to multiply the ratings: recently they were watching the successful fiction of Rai1 6,486,000 viewers, which corresponds to a share of 31.2%. Numbers that are a rarity on today’s television, but which, for thirteen editions, have accompanied the series that until recently had Terence Hill as the protagonist. The change at the top was indeed a risk. But the bet – above all Luca Bernabei, CEO of Lux Vide – can be described as successful. “We are very happy, the public could have said enough. Instead, this result has arrived – explains Bernabei -. I firmly believe in our work. Behind Don Matteo is a team with some of the best professionals in Europe. The secret is that of every important series: there is a format behind it”.
There is also “the intuition of wanting Raoul Bova in the role of Don Massimo and the providence that interested him. They’re all pieces of a Lego that need to fit together in a specific way to build anything good. Raoul was at a right moment in his life: he is someone who asks himself the important questions, someone who questions himself … otherwise you don’t have that good light in your eyes and the public notices ». However, Terence Hill explained that he would have liked to have continued wearing Don Matteo’s cassock: “Actually, he wanted to do a few films, one thing now and then, and for us it got complicated because we’re dealing with a series product. But it is not said that although he left, he will never come back … ».
Anyone who smiles at this success is now the new favorite Don on TV. «I was perhaps the last to see these numbers … I received an avalanche of messages, calls, it was good. I was hoping for that, but it wasn’t a given,” admits Bova. While it’s not easy to jump into a show that’s been around for over twenty years (the first episode aired in 2000, ed.), he admits he’s never “entered the dynamic of ‘, ‘her will accept me, they will not accept me”. “. After all, with every project you can’t know whether you’re going to follow you. I focused on the character and I arrived at this set with a lot of love and a lot of passion ». Today, however, he says he wants to “sincerely thank everyone who watched the series the other night: even those who have never missed an episode in all these years had the kindness to look before judging and not be shut down: It is.” a nice touch and a good signal because the door does not open for everyone ».
It happened, he adds, “what also happened to the troupe, to Nino Frassica: it was right that they saw a work worthy of Don Matteo of recent years, that they saw that I mean put my heart and soul into the character.” . And the hypothesis that he can interpret it for as long as his predecessor? “We have all learned to plan for the short term. We are also preparing other projects with Lux, so there is a possibility of a change. But when I think about the long seriality of this character, it doesn’t weigh me down. Indeed: it will be a pleasure to return to the set and interpret the priest that I would have liked to meet: a friend, a wise person but not pedantic, who does not quote the Gospel at all costs, but to you with his close is spirituality ».
