Donald Brashear throws down the gloves at 51

Former NHL tough guy Donald Brashear had no fear this weekend. At the age of 51, he threw down the gloves against an opponent 11 years his junior.

Brashear played his first game of the season in the North American League’s Marquis de Jonquière jersey on Saturday.

He accepted the invitation of Derek Parker from the Pétroliers du Nord, to whom he showed that, despite his venerable age for an ice hockey player, he had lost none of his fistfighting talent.

The two strong men fought a long battle that ended when the 50-year-old managed to knock his opponent down on the ice.

Brashear played more than 1,000 games in 16 seasons in the NHL, accumulating 2,634 penalty minutes.

He is also the 15th most penalized player in circuit history, having worn the colors of the Canadiens, Canucks, Flyers, Capitals and Rangers.
