Donald Trump confirmed that he will attend the inauguration of Javier Milei on December 10 in Buenos Aires, the presidentelect’s press office reported on Thursday (23).

The former US president phoned Milei to congratulate him on his victory over Sergio Massa, the current economy minister, by a clear margin on November 19.

According to the statement, the new Argentine president will have a meeting with Trump once he takes over the Casa Rosada.

In an interview with Argentine television, Milei said that Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was “welcome” at the ceremony. A move that was interpreted as an attempt at rapprochement after he declared during the election campaign that he would not meet with the PT member because he was “corrupt” and “communist”.

Lula spoke about Milei’s election on a social network and wished the new government good luck, but did not name a winner.

Former President Jair Bolsonaro was invited to the inauguration during a call the day after election results were announced and is expected to travel to the Argentine capital.

This week the presidentelect met with President Alberto Fernández to initiate the change of government.
