Don’t miss Sherbrooke Video Game Week and the event Console qui Console

From March 6th to 12th, the second edition of Sherbrooke Video Game Week will take place, a community initiative supported by Sherbrooke Innopole that aims to support economic development around the video game sector and the technical-creative arts with a program which offers multiple activities for students, professionals and developers as well as video game enthusiasts and the general public.

We are very pleased to see the community mobilizing around the many existing events and we are confident that more activities will be added in the years to come. We will be there to support them! Our goal is nothing less than to position Sherbrooke among the industry leaders and make a strong mark internationally together with Montreal and Quebec.

– Marc-Henri Faure, Director, Business Services, Information Technologies at Sherbrooke Innopole.

An overview of the program

People who aspire to a career in video games have the opportunity to participate in one coffee talk to learn more about the Video Game Training Continuum, now available in Sherbrooke. In addition, online workshops will be available for primary and secondary school students, and several other activities are also planned in educational institutions.

Video game programmers and developers can meet for a special edition of the traditional evenings Gaming Drinks – another initiative overseen by Sherbrooke Innopole – where industry professionals discuss new technologies and their profession. They also meet around Sherbrooke Game Jama 48-hour hackathon in which fifty participants, alone or in teams, develop a playful game or video game, including design, programming, visual art, music and more.

The geek community and the curious will be particularly excited for the return of the event The console that comforts, which brought together more than 1,500 people at the Sherbrooke Fair Center last year and as many online. On the menu: discussions with Sherbrooke Studios, a digital zone with video games, board games and active games, Valorant, League of Legends, Rocket League tournaments and more. There will be something for everyone, young and old, and all in favor of Leucan Estrie and CHAS (Centre Logement Alternatif de Sherbrooke).

The publication of the book Plongeon Virtuel by author Stéphane Baillargeon, a crime thriller set in the future of Sherbrooke and about cyber addiction, will also take place during Sherbrooke Video Game Week. Mr. Baillargeon’s work aims to adequately prepare and educate new generations for a future that is more connected than ever.

The video game sector has been growing very rapidly in Sherbrooke for a number of years. With this dedicated week we want to awaken the interest of the population in interesting and cosmopolitan professions. All this will make it possible to further develop the skills that exist in the regions and in the community.
