Nirbhaya’s mother Asha Devi on Wednesday extended her support for the family of 20-year-old Anjali, who was hit by a gray Baleno and dragged 12 kilometers at Sultanpuri in Delhi on January 1. “I urge the authorities to investigate the case and provide financial support to the family. The job should be given to the family member as soon as possible. I don’t blame anyone but I don’t support what this girl (Nidhi) said in her statement,” she was quoted as saying by the ANI news agency.

Nidhi was seen riding the Scooty with Anjali as pillion passenger just before they were hit by the car. After following CCTV footage, police found that Nidhi was there with Anjali. In her statement, she claimed Anjali insisted on riding the two-wheeler despite being in the “intoxicated state”. She added that the driver kept driving even after Anjali screamed.

Anjali’s mother dismissed Nidhi’s claims, saying she “never saw” her. “I don’t know Nidhi, I’ve never seen her. Anjali has never drunk before, she never came home in a drunken state and we don’t believe what Nidhi claims,” she told reporters.
