Her photo was circulating around the world – now Dorothy Hoffner is dead. The 104-year-old woman, who parachuted from 4,100 meters a week ago, died peacefully at her nursing home. Formalities with the Guinness Book of Records are still pending.
A week after skydiving at the age of 104, American Dorothy Hoffner died, according to a friend. She was found dead Monday by staff at the Brookdale Lake View nursing home in Chicago, Joe Conant said. Hoffner apparently died in his sleep on Sunday night (local time). Conant, who works as a caregiver, befriended the elderly woman a few years ago when she was caring for another resident of the home.
On October 1, Hoffner performed a parachute jump that could earn him an entry into the Guinness Book of Records. “Age is just a number,” the elderly woman announced to a cheering crowd upon landing at Skydive Chicago Airport in Ottawa, about 90 miles southwest of Chicago, according to a Chicago Tribune report. She dove to depths of 4,100 meters using a double jump.

However, this could take a while, he said. The current record holder is Swedish Linnéa Ingegärd Larsson, who plunged into the depths with a double jump in May 2022, at the age of 103.
Hoffner radiated incredible energy and remained mentally active until the end, Conant said. “She was tireless. She continued.
